Let's talk food!

Mama is making me ask you guys to tell her what you eat. Mama is starting to get concerned she is slowly killing me with kindness. I eat chicken (Cooked but, plain) a few times a week, sometimes I get a plain hotdog (Very rare) I eat a small tin of moist dogfood most days - if I am in the mood. Also I eat dry kibble here and there if the humans don't give in and give me human food. Mama's heard of the raw food diet but, is afraid to try it. So the woman is asking you all to let her know what you guys eat or if you know if chicken is bad for dogs. Mama cannot find consistent information on the internet. The vet says chicken once in a while is ok as long as I eat my own food. Mama trusts you guys since you all have such loving owners.

p.s PLEASE PLEASE say cookies and treats....I have a feeling she is serious about this. Darn, better eat my chicken while I can!

I eat kibble, I lick plates - all plates even the yummy dessert ones! I get table droppings, steak bones, chicken, pork, lamb, veggies, s'ghettis.....and chew bones every other day. Oh, and a cookie each time I come in from my walkie.

Before my bladder stone problem, I used to be on a raw diet (Prairie) with some veggies on top. My mom also made me special doggie recipes, and cooked me venison & rice a lot. Since there are lots of important vitamins doggies are supposed to get, our vet gave my mom a list of supplements to add to home-cooked food to make sure I got all my nutrients. My mom can send the list to you if you're interested.

hey chelsea dear,

first, my hooman fed me kibbles - eukanuba or science diet. but when i refused the kibbles, mom tried home cook then RAW. recently dad started feeding me kibbles in the morning coz he said to clear up the food so it won't go wasted. then mom feed me RAW at night.

guess what? i love kibbles! and i finished it in no time while i left a bit here and there on the RAW. so mom got frustrated with me so she feed me kibbles for both meals.

i think your mom should feed you whatever you like. no point forcing you to eat something that you don't like even though recommended by the experts right?

I get lean meats and chicken, veggies, eggs amd cheese, but I have to eat my kibble every day. My Human mixes the yummy foods in with my kibble. My Human thinks the most important thing is to keep dogs lean and trim. Lots of health problems are caused more by being over weight and not enough exercise, than what we eat.

K... In the morning it's Burns Fish & Brown Rice. At night it's different kinds of meat - all raw. I get eggs once awhile. There's brocoli, carrots, apples... just about anything that is edible.

There's of cos the big marrow bone every weekend.

Hi Chelsea: We eat Eukanuba (dry) - it's nutritionally complete, has those Omega-thingies, and only "natural preservatives". We LOVE it! We also get banana slices every day. And cookies -- Nutro Maxies or Mother Hubbard's.
We don't get much "people" food, as it's not great for our teeth -- though there is nothing wrong with chicken! Mom is too squeemish to raw feed us and wants to make sure we get the right nutritional mix -- so she goes with the Euk.

We eat special formulated kibble (for allergies)once a day.
And then mama gives a little peice of cheese when she gives Jake his meds. And then whenever her and papa are eating (which for mama is most of the time) they save us a peice and share - cause they give in to our big sad eyes (never mind we are on either side of them trying our darndest to look anorexic.

Hey Chelsea,

I think it's completely fine if you get chicken on top of your kibble (good quality right?), you just don't want to go solely on cooked chicken without adding supplements and balancing the nutrients. The calcium phosphorous ratio is very important, meat is high in phosphorous, so if you only feed meat as main meal, then you would need to do the calculation to figure out how much calcium supplement you have to add. Too little calcium can result in the body pulling calcium from your bones and teeth trying to balance the calcium phosphorous ratio, too much artificial calcium can result in calcium deposits in joints, soft tissues and organs. That's why it is important to give raw bones to a raw fed dog, so they cal/phos is balanced.

I know you're afraid to try the raw, but maybe have your mom consider giving you a kibble called Innova EVO. It contains no grains (hard for dogs to digest), and is excellent quality. This is what I get when we go camping. Their wet food is great too, no grains as well, and mum buys the canned EVO and bakes them for me as treats. Yum yum!! You will notice your poop is smaller on the EVO than most brands of dog kibbles out there, because of the no grain factor. When grains aren't digested, they get pooped out. Since EVO contains no grains, it is digested well, and little waste comes out. It is still a bit bigger than a raw fed poop, but smaller than other dog kibbles. The Bouvier show dog that lived with us used to eat this because he was on the road showing and he looked EXCELLENT and was in EXCELLENT health, great energy!

Hmm... I think I just posted a "post" on your blog...

Oh, almost forgot, this is the link to Innova EVO if you want to have a look at it. They make normal dog foods with grains as well, but the EVO formula is the best in mum and my vet's opinion.
